Good
for USA But sad for Chile, tennis
and Davis Cup

Watching Andy Roddick and N. Massu
this morning I couldn't help but
notice the sparse crowd in the
arena.
I said "it's still early, there's a
lot of tennis still to play".
However as Roddick was victorious
versus Massu and the second match
came on court I saw no change.
Hundreds of seats empty throughout
the bull ring style stadium.
This comes as a surprise to me. I always thought Chile was full of
crazed fans for tennis, soccer or
any event representing their proud
country. Could this be a sign that
Davis Cup is losing steam? The
tennis gods have been struggling
with how to change Davis Cup to
attract more attention and increase
viewers and attendance.
My problem with Davis Cup is the
annual schedule. Serbia's
victory hangover
hasn't even passed and they are
already defending their title. The
fans and citizens of the winning
country do not have a chance to
revel in the glory of winning Davis
Cup.
The ATP's grueling schedule makes
changing Davis Cup a near
impossibility. That said, something
needs to be changed. This would be welcomed by
fans and players alike.
